Today, two companies we have been honored to partner with are joining forces. ezCater has agreed to be acquired by Uber, bringing together two businesses that have each changed how people and organizations access food at scale.
We first partnered with founders Stefania Mallett, Briscoe Rodgers, and the ezCater team in 2016. Stefania was an amazing leader who set a clear and compelling vision for the company from its earliest days. Briscoe helped shape not only the product and technology, but also the ambition of the business model. Together, they were guided by a simple conviction that ordering food for work should be effortless, reliable, and built around how businesses actually operate.
At the time, workplace food remained an underestimated category. We believed ezCater had built something competitors could not easily replicate including a broad network of restaurants with whom the company had built deep and trusting relationships.
What followed was years of disciplined execution. ezCater grew to become the number one food tech platform for workplaces in the United States, connecting more than 140,000 restaurants nationwide with businesses feeding their teams. Along the way, the company built the infrastructure large organizations require, from centralized billing and procurement integrations to policy controls and the operational reliability that has the potential to turn a single order into a lasting customer relationship.
When COVID arrived, offices emptied, workplace food all but disappeared, and the company’s revenue fell 85%, creating the most difficult operating environments in ezCater’s history. When Nihad Rahman joined as CFO in 2022, he brought a steady hand to help navigate this period of retrenchment and led the company back to growth.
After becoming CEO in 2025, Nihad embedded himself deeply across the business and led a series of changes that strengthened ezCater’s marketplace, expanded margins, and accelerated growth. Those efforts helped position the company for its next chapter.
Today’s acquisition marks the beginning of that chapter. Uber brings global reach, logistics infrastructure, and a scaled delivery platform. ezCater brings deep workplace expertise, managed accounts, compliance workflows, logistics designed for large orders, and nearly 20 years of B2B catering data and experience. Together, we believe those complementary strengths can create a more complete solution for how businesses feed their teams, from an individual meal to a company-wide catering program.
At ICONIQ, we are grateful to have partnered with both ezCater and Uber and to have seen firsthand what each team has built. Congratulations to Stefania, Briscoe, Nihad, and the entire ezCater team on this milestone. We are grateful to have been part of the journey and look forward to seeing what they build together.
