How was the report written, and what is the methodology?

The report is based on a proprietary Q2 2026 survey of ~300 executives at software companies building AI products, plus qualitative input from the ICONIQ community of AI leaders. Findings are compared against a prior Q4 2025 survey of ~300 executives, with longitudinal data normalized for firmographic differences and all company-level responses anonymized.

The State of AI report is ICONIQ's bi-annual study of how software companies build, price, scale, and operate AI products. The July 2026 edition, "The Builder's Economy," is the third report in the series, covering AI models and infrastructure, go-to-market and economics, talent and organization, and AI for internal productivity.
